Over 130 musicians from Monmouth School and Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls took part in the annual Charity Concert in the Blake Theatre on Wednesday 30 November.
The evening saw performances by groups ranging from three pupils to sixty pupils, and in all styles, from classical to big band. The evening was in aid of the Japan Relief Fund. The concert raised over £1,000 and a cheque will be presented to the fund in the New Year.
Director of Music David Lawson said, “Our musicians themselves chose this charity and what a worthy cause it is. We are so pleased to be able to bring together the efforts of so many of our pupils to produce such an enjoyable and festive evening in such a good cause”.

Inglefield House celebrates Christmas with an annual Christingle Service. Parents gathered in St. Mary's Church, Monmouth for a feast of singing, acting and instrumental music. The service culminated with the lighting of the Christingles which had been made by the children earlier that day, providing an atmospheric end to the evening.

The scheme is now in its third year. The number of schools involved has increased to seven and each week 60 pupils from these schools take part in a range of practical science tasks whose aims are to encourage them to acquire advanced scientific skills and to enhance their understanding of the importance of science in the modern world. There are regular
visits to Cardiff University where the students undertake a range of exercises typical of those given to undergraduates. The University generously allowes them to use valuable equipment and several senior staff gave up their time to work with them.
There is an annual MSI conference in the Blake Theatre where some of the country's leading scientists deliver lectures on their ground-breaking work.
The organisers of the scheme are always pleased to hear from any interested individuals and organisations who may be able to support the venture. Please contact Dr A. Francis c/o Monmouth School.

Pudsey Bear left the television studio and thrilled the children with a visit to Agincourt School. Wearing pyjamas for the day, the children raised £450 for Children in Need.
